Reserve League Cup v Montrose
Tuesday, 16th Oct 2007Jamie Harris in first Reserve Fixture of 2007/08
DUNFERMLINE 0 MONTROSE 0
There were no goals in this, the Pars first Reserve League Cup section match, played at East End Park on Tuesday night. With Montrose fielding ten of the fourteen players they used in their last league match against Elgin City, this was a good result for a Pars side that with three or four exceptions, was comprised of inexperienced youngsters.
During the opening 45 minutes the visitors had plenty of chances to take the lead. They were somewhat unlucky to have a good Andy Rodgers `goal` chalked off for offside and made Pars keeper Sean Murdoch pull off two good saves in the final five minutes before the break.
In added time at the end of the half Jim McIntyre came close turning a Bobby Ryan cross on to the base of the right upright.
Half Time Dunfermline 0 Montrose 0
Montrose started the second half intent to make up for their first half misses but after Jay Stein had chipped a 25 yard free kick over the bar and then Murdoch saved at point blank range from John Baird and then denied Rodgers, the home side were allowed to get a better hold of the game.
Helped when the Montrose keeper dropped the ball a golden chance came the way of McIntyre and then sub Charlie Bradshaw but his shot was driven wide. Next Paul Willis drove a shot at the keeper as he tried to finish a fine squared ball from Owen Morrison. The opposition failed to clear and Bradshaw sent over a cross from the right that McIntyre directed on to the top of the crossbar.
Montrose had more chances but Murdoch was the equal of them before a Morrison shot gave the Pars a corner two minutes from time. Jamie Harris came really close to snatching a winner from the setpiece but turned the ball over the bar from close in.
