U19s v Raith Rovers
Wednesday, 1st Aug 2007Stalemate in Fife U19 Cup
DUNFERMLINE 0 RAITH ROVERS 0
This goalless draw could never be described as exciting rather a stalemate as John McGlynn`s Raith side and Dunfermline under Craig Robertson cancelled each other out. Dunfermline made just one change from the team that defeated East Fife 3-0 the previous night; Ryan Thomson coming in for Jason Hunter.
Pars keeper Craig Bauld held an early free kick before in seven minutes Kris Maxwell did well to charge down the right back`s clearance. The striker then turned the ball back for Scott McBride to drive the ball through the penalty box and just outside the far post. Unfortunately there was no one there to take a touch.
Three minutes later a Thomson break let in Sandy Nairn to find Maxwell in good position in the Raith box but he was shut out. At the other end the Kirkcaldy team had a useful shot deflected for a corner and then in 27 minutes their left back embarked on a run that took him to the edge of the Pars box and luckily his shot rebounded off the back of John McCulloch.
This precipitated a period of sustained pressure with Bauld having to make a fine save from a strong downward header at a second successive corner from the left.
Early in the second half Gary Thomson shot narrowly wide for the Rovers while at the other end Ryan Thomson displayed good individual play working the ball out from the right corner to test the keeper with a great shot.
There were few scoring opportunities for either side but in 65 minutes Lee charged down Scott Weddell and Bauld was able to stop his opponent`s progress by conceding a corner.
In the final minute Lee went through on the keeper again but Bauld was bravely out to save at the feet of the Rovers no.10. In added time Dunfermline pushed for the winner but a draw was a fair result in the end.
