U19s v East Fife
Tuesday, 31st Jul 2007Pars eventually punish East Fife with three second half goals at Peffermill.
DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC 3 EAST FIFE 0
It was almost all change from the young side that faced Burntisland Shipyard on Monday night. With Greg Paterson out with a finger injury only goalkeeper Craig Bauld returned for the next match in this tournament against a strong and well organised Eat Fife team.
Dunfermline may have won the match with a convincing scoreline but should have had to sewn up in the first half. There were a barrowload of chances in the opening half hour. Paul Willis accepted a Gary McLachlan pass in 9 minutes but shot at the keeper. Next minute Derek Howie raced into the opposition box and released a whacking shot that a defender managed to get in the way of. In 11 minutes a Garry Leighton cross rebounded off his opposite number at the far post and Kris Maxwell was there in the role of predator but blasted over the crossbar.
Scott McBride exploited space on the left in 16 minutes and shot narrowly past the far post. East Fife rallied and were more in the game but again it was the Pars who came closest, McLachlan in 24 minutes sending a big ball through but Maxwell just couldn`t get a touch and then five minutes later Jason Hunter was one on one with the keeper but failed to beat him.
In the last minute of the half the East Fife left back embarked on a run that ended with a good ball to the near post, so good that it seemed to surprise his striker and the ball was sent outside the left goalpost.
Half Time: Dunfermline 0 East Fife 0
After Hamish French`s team talk Dunfermline continued their push for a goal. Three minutes into the second half Maxwell had a snap shot that the keeper parried but the break was not kind for the follow up from Hunter. Five more minutes and Maxwell sent a nice ball out to Willis who tested the keeper and again Hunter was unlucky with the rebound.
In 46 minutes East Fife fired in a free kick that came close but before they had regrouped Willis broke down the right and cut back the ball for Scott McBRIDE who netted from 12 yards.
Hunter turned his man at the left corner flag and sent in a cross cum shot that hit the outside of the near post. After Willis was hauled down on the edge of the box Gary McLachlan shot wide from the 60th minute free kick.
Four minutes later WILLIS took advantage as the offside flag stayed down and slipped the ball past the advancing keeper from an angle. A minute before the end a long ball from John McCulloch was centred by Willis and McLACHLAN powered a fine shot into the net from 20 yards.
