U19s v Burntisland Shipyard
Monday, 30th Jul 2007Shipyard hold young Pars team to a draw in Edinburgh
DUNFERMLINE 1 BURNTISLAND SHIPYARD 1
Paul Donnelly`s Under 17 squad took on Burntisland in the Pars opening match of the Fife U19 Cup at Peffermill, Edinburgh on Monday night. They couldn`t have got off to a worse start conceding a goal in just 17 seconds.
From the kick off Burntisland travelled down the right and a cross into the box was fired on target. Keeper Chris Bauld could not hold the shot and a Shipyard striker turned the ball in.
Dunfermline, playing in sky blue, tried hard to undo the early set back with Reece Smith being presented with three good chances in the next 13 minutes. In the fourth minute he was narrowly wide left with an attempt, seven minutes later running on to a ball from Lawrie Cannon he allowed the keeper to come out and block and then two minutes later he blasted another chance over the bar.
A corner kick from the left in 29th minute was well attacked by Gary Hamilton and his powerful header looked like the equaliser until the Burntisland keeper touched it over his bar.
In the second half more Dunfermline pressure eventually paid off. Cannon`s header from a corner over from the right was kept out at the far post but a 51st minute free kick produced the well earned equaliser. Harry McGregor lofted the ball into the box and substitute Jordan WHITE made his own space to net.
For most of the remaining 19 minutes Dunfermline looked the more likely to grab a winner but McLennan shot a pass from Lewis Turner into the sidenetting. Smith prodded the ball the ball up the park for White but the keeper was quickly out to prevent the winner. Two minutes from full time Ricky Hall rifled the ball into the box from the left but no one got a touch and it slipped just outside the far post.
In the other game played on Monday Raith Rovers defeated Cowdenbeath 1-0.
