U19s v Falkirk
Thursday, 5th Apr 2007Friday 6th April, U19s lose to ten men at Stirling University.
FALKIRK 2 DUNFERMLINE 1
Hamish French was disappointed to watch his U19 side again lose by the odd goal in the Friday lunchtime fixture against Falkirk at Stirling University.
It took only two minutes for the difficult pitch to catch the Pars out with John McCulloch misjudging a long ball from the opposing keeper. This let Mark STEWART in to beat Greg Paterson with a wicked bounce as the ball sneaked in at the corner.
Good link up on the right put Gary McLachlan in for the visitors first opportunity in 14 minutes but the effort from an angle on the right was deflected away for a corner.
Referee Stephen Allan brandished a red card at Brian Allison in 20 minutes, presumably for something the young defender said but within four minutes and before Dunfermline could re-organise to take advantage of the extra man, Falkirk scored a second. A short pass back by Sandy Nairn was well read by Paul SLUDDEN and he nipped in before Paterson to slot home.
The Pars certainly had the better possession after that but were finding it hard to test Andrews in the Falkirk goal. It took a 39th minute pass from Nairn to Smith that was nicely played back to Nick PHINN to get the Pars on the scoresheet. The midfielder lifted shot crept in under the crossbar with Andrews failing to stop it.
With the Fifers beginning to dominate, the half time whistle probably came too soon for them and the break gave Eddie May time to re-group his team and hold on to their advantage. Falkirk defended deep and the Pars found it hard to create chances. Alan McDonough did have a shot saved but all too often the ball seemed to reach the safety of Andrews.
Midway through the second half Clark Kay broke down the left to fire a good cross into the box that Kris Maxwell was unlucky with. With 15 minutes remaining substitute Paul Willis returned a keeper`s clearance that just bounced wide of target and Neil Fenwick had one last chance from a corner from the left that he headed narrowly over the crossbar.
