Reserves v Hibernian
Tuesday, 13th Mar 2007Burchill nets equaliser but Hibees strike back
DUNFERMLINE 1 HIBS 3
With Aberdeen`s match against Dundee United postponed a win for Dunfermline`s Reserves against Hibs on Tuesday afternoon would have seen them rise off the bottom place in their SPL table. But luck that has deserted the club of late continued to work against them as Hibs left East End Park with all three points.
Dunfermline should have capitalised on a good Scott Muirhead burst down the left in the first minute but his low hard delivery across the goal had no takers. Iain Williamson then had a shot off a Mark Burchill lay off and the home side were playing well and creating chances.
Burchill and McManus were linking up very well and the ex Hibee flicked the ball for Burchill to test Brown in the Hibs goal. The Pars forced a series of corners and then Freddie Daquin was denied by the goalpost when he slid in to connect with a McManus cross.
Hibs were dangerous on the counter and it was a through ball that needed Greg Paterson to show some of the form that had brought him a call up to the Scotland U19s earlier in the day. The attacker tried to round the seventeen year old but Greg managed to poke the ball out for a corner.
Burchill then beat the opposition offside trap, one on one with Simon Brown success was with the keeper as he dived at the feet of the advancing keeper.
A neat passing movement in midfield led to the Hibs opener. A break through the middle let the visitors in between the defence and keeper, Paterson missed the tackle and Ross CAMPBELL was left to sidefoot home. On chances created the Pars should have been ahead but instead Hibs made the counterattack work for them.
The second half was only in its seventh minute when from 20 yards Mark BURCHILL converted a Daquin cross after the Frenchman had made a good run from half way.
Paterson saved at an opposition forward`s feet when Hibs mounted a quick attack. Williamson showed fine form that has earned him an offer of a two year contract at Dunfermline; he beat a couple of defenders on his way into the box but just ran out of space and Brown came out to smother the ball.
Hibs regained their lead in 70 minutes when they exploited the Pars left. Darren Smith got between Muirhead and Howie to get a shot on goal, Paterson saved but could only knock it into the path of Damon Gray to net from inside the six yard box.
A Nick Phinn pass was despatched narrowly wide by Burchill and Daquin had a shot saved before Hibs broke down the right in the last minute to set up CAMPBELL with an easy finish.
