U19s v Kilmarnock
Saturday, 3rd Feb 2007U19s register fine away win in Ayrshire on Saturday morning
KILMARNOCK 1 DUNFERMLINE 3
Dunfermline U19s made the trip to Kilwinning on Saturday morning, clinched the three points and were back at East End Park to enjoy the Scottish Cup win over Hearts. Killie produced the first direct shot of the match but Greg Paterson saved and his side quickly worked their way into the match.
Alan McDonough had a shot saved and Derek Howie had his deflected for a corner before a strong run down the right by Sean Muhsin might have brought the opener in the tenth but after cutting inside the youngster shot wide when a lay off might have paid a dividend.
Nevertheless six minutes later Calum Smith sent Scott McBride down the wing. Scott was stopped on the edge of the penalty box and Patrick HALPIN picked out the top right corner of the net from the free kick.
The home side fought back and clinched an equaliser just ten minutes from half time. After failing to capitalise on a couple of free kicks in danger threatening positions it was a run through the middle from Scott ANSON that heralded the goal finished well to beat Paterson.
Dunfermline put much energy into their play for the second half and in 52 minutes Neil FENWICK collected the ball in his own half to embark on a run. A route opened up in front of him and he was able to despatch a scoring shot from 20 yards to restore the lead.
A very sweet passing move six minutes later involving Howie, Phinn and McBride delivered a cross in from the left that Alan McDONOUGH swept high into the roof of the net from his left boot.
Kilmarnock had a couple of flurries but Paterson showed good handling when called upon and Dunfermline held out to record a good victory.
