Having taken an early knock, Mark Burchill withdrawn after 33 minutes as a precautionary measure.

DUNFERMLINE 0 INVERNESS CALEY THISTLE 3

Following the U19s defeat on Friday, another Inverness team put three past the Pars.  This time it was a stronger and more experienced Caley side in contrast to Dunfermline.  The home side included no fewer than five of their Under 19 squad while the visitors deployed only one as a late sub.

Both teams started brightly with Dunfermline producing some good early passing moves.  They might have taken an sixth minute lead had Michael Fraser not turned Iain Williamson`s header around the post after Scott Morrison`s long diagonal ball had been controlled by Greg Ross who in turn sent in an inviting ball from deep down the right to pick out his striker.

Next Derek Howie made the overlapping run down the right for Ross to set him up and when his delivery came in Davie Muir connecting with a looping header that dropped inches over the bar.  Just as Dunfermline were looking good they lost a goal directly from a free kick.  Gary McSWEGAN struck in 21st minute beating Greg Paterson from 24 yards.

The goal gave the Highlanders the lift they needed, they assumed the superiority and used it to grab a second goal. Maybe Dennis WYNESS should have been closed down quicker but the outcome was that the former Jambo curled in his 33rd minute shot from the edge of the box.

Just four minutes later WYNESS struck again.  A long ball from his keeper was not dealt too well by the Pars defence and the 29 year old hitman accepted a square ball to convert an easy chance.

Three nil down, the Pars could have been excused had the heads gone down, they kept pressing in the second half but it was a hard task against a Caley Thistle side that was full of confidence.  The 57th minute saw a Morrison cross headed on target by Calum Smith but Fraser saved comfortably. Then Howie won the ball in midfield to play in Williamson.  The 18 year-old youngster knocked the ball past Fraser but the defence got back to sweep up.

Inverness had two good chances but both were blocked by Bamba before Smith got a couple of his own.  Good play from Morrison allowed Smith a shot on target but again Fraser turned the ball around the post for a corner.  From that Morrison once more picked out Smith but this time the header at the near post went narrowly over the bar.

Dunfermline had to accept that they were not to score after Howie and Ross combined to set up Bamba but luck had deserted this Reserve team.  It was maybe not as bad as the scoreline suggests but once going ahead there was little doubt that Inverness would be going back up the A9 with full points.
