U19s v Aberdeen
Saturday, 26th Aug 2006Patrick Halpin scored the winner and kept the Dons out at the other end.
ABERDEEN 0 DUNFERMLINE 1
The Pars had a good away win in this SPL Youth League fixture played at Balgownie Park on Friday afternoon. After a fairly even start the home side took the initiative and two good chances were thwarted by the Dunfermline keeper Greg Paterson. Celebrating his call up to the Scotland Under 19 squad the 16 year old stopper was even outside his box heading away the danger.
Gary Leighton beat a path down the right in 16 minutes delivering a ball that Davie Muir blasted over the crossbar. The Dons then enjoyed a good spell of possession with Andrew Bradshaw shooting narrowly wide.
Towards half time the visitors were back into the game, forcing a few corners before taking the lead in 44th minute. Patrick Halpin and Scott McBride exchanged passes and when HALPIN crossed the ball squirmed in at the near post when maybe the keeper should have done better. Aberdeen might have felt aggrieved at the turn around but Dunfermline started the second 45 positively.
Alan McDonough and then Iain Williamson threatened to increase the lead but neither managed to hit the target. At the other end Paterson continued to frustrate Aberdeen as they forced a couple of corners but the keeper ruled well over them.
His Aberdeen counterpart Stewart Fraser saved from Muir and McDonough latched on to a Paterson kick out but shot narrowly wide. Halpin ensured that his goal was the winner with a good defensive header near the end.
