Reserves v Falkirk
Tuesday, 8th Aug 2006Serious need to sign strikers was evident as the Pars Reserves fielded two trialists upfront against the wee Bairns. Unbelievably the injury jinx did not take long to hit.
DUNFERMLINE 1 FALKIRK 2
Calum Smith was an early substitute as the Pars` injury jinks took only two minutes to strike again. At the start of this, the first SPL Reserve match of the season, Dunfermline`s Polish trialist Remigiusz Jezierski was caught as he stretched for a ball and sustained a groin injury.
Both teams had their fair share of the play before a magic run by Craig Wilson from the halfway line, beating a couple of players as he progressed down the right allowed a good delivery in for Davie MUIR to send a right footed shot into the far corner of the net from 12 yards.
Dunfermline continued to press although Falkirk had their spells as well and always held a threat at set pieces and several corners before the break. Probably the home side deserved their goal advantage as the second half got under way. Owen Morrison through on his own, forced Jedren Lambers to pull off a good save and then he came close from the inside left area but the shot escaped across the goal.
In 52nd minute Falkirk took a quickly taken corner that was cleared at the edge of the box, Dorus De Vries had a good save when the ball was returned but the break set up Graham CHURCHILL to notch the equaliser.
Midway through the half Dunfermline looked to be in control in the centre of the park but a Falkirk ball through the middle again saw the break of the ball being kind to CHURCHILL who netted from just inside the box.
Owen Morrison then hit the post following a good run but the rebound gave the Pars no chance. Dunfermline continued to chase the equaliser with Calum Smith`s shot on the turn in the box being well saved and Owen Morrison putting two crosses over the face of goal that no one could convert.
At least the game saw the welcome return of Greg Ross in his first competitive action of the season and Scott Morrison played 76 minutes to add to the run out he had against the Dutch amateur side Eilermark in July. The injury to the Polish striker was really disappointing but fellow trialist Craig Reid worked hard without any opportunities coming his way.
