Reserves v Rangers
Wednesday, 26th Apr 2006SPL Reserve League
DUNFERMLINE 1 RANGERS 2
In the penultimate match of their SPL Reserve League Dunfermline took on Rangers for the second time in three days. Another defeat unfortunately but at least this time it was a slightly closer affair with both sides fielded teams of lesser experience. Only two of Rangers Monday starting line up kicked off at East End Park while Hamish French used most of the same personnel who had played at Broadwood.
Pars keeper Peter Shaw was in early action pulling off a good save from Steven Lennon after just five minutes. Davie Muir`s rash challenge on Derek Carcary a minute later earned the visitors a penalty and Englishman Moses Ashikodi despatched the ball beyond Shaw to give Rangers an early lead.
Dunfermline had their chances but Rangers 16 year-old keeper Scott Gallacher saved from Calum Smith after Iain Williamson had supplied a good ball. A Rangers corner was swung in by Gilmour and Gary McKenzie forced another good save out of Shaw. Further chances came the way of Davidson and Lennon before an interchange with Giilmour brought goal number two for Rangers, Steven Lennon firing in from 16 yards.
Before half time the Pars Spanish defender Martin Camaño almost scored with a header from a Davie Armour corner but Gilmour and his keeper Gallacher kept it out.
Into the second half and Dunfermline scored after just seven minutes when Calum Smith took advantage of a slip by Carcary and bent in a shot around Gallacher to make it 2-1. Clark Kay cleared a Davidson effort off the line two minutes later and Smith had an effort cleared off the line at the other end.
There was to be no equaliser with luck deserting Smith in the dying minutes when he chipped the keeper but saw his shot shave past the post.
