Reserves v Inverness CT
Monday, 23rd Jan 2006SPL Reserve match at Bayview
DUNFERMLINE 2 INVERNESS CALEY THISTLE 3
With Dunfermline`s thoughts firmly focussed on the CIS Insurance Cup Semi Final, the SPL Reserve match at Bayview on Monday afternoon was merely a distraction and the Fifers fielded an inexperienced side against much stronger opposition.
The match took some time to warm up and it wasn`t until Richie Hart hit the outside of the Pars post in the 17th minute that the competition was ignited. Five minutes later Inverness`s head of steam caught the Pars on the break. A run punctuated with a cross from the right was sidefooted in at the back post by Hart to put the visitors ahead.
Within a minute Dunfermline were back on level terms. Chris Anderson worked his way through from midfield and slipped an inviting pass for Iain Williamson`s left foot to despatch the ball beyond the keeper from the edge of the box.
There were 36 minutes gone when the young Pars went ahead. Nick Phinn found Anderson and he shot past the advancing keeper. That lead might have increased minutes later as John Dunn in a similar move to that to put the Pars one up, set up Calum Smith but the finish wasn`t as good.
Despite the Caley Jags possibly enjoying a slight advantage in possession Dunfermline`s 2-1 half time advantage was not entirely undeserved.
Seven minutes into the second half the scores were even again. Caley found a route around the full back and a swiftly delivered cross from the left was converted. Shortly after that Stuart Golabek failed to show composure when lined up with a good opportunity but rocketed his right footed effort well over the crossbar.
Anderson and Dunn almost regained the lead in 77 minutes but the latter`s shot was just wide. In the end it was left to the Pars U17 international goalkeeper, Greg Paterson to preserve a point for his side, pulling off a great save in the last minute.
