A Simon Donnelly hattrick saw off the Dons in this SPL Reserve League fixture played at East End Park on Tuesday afternoon. The Scottish internationalist score with two really well taken goals from open play and one from a free kick. Midway through the first half he chested down a clearance out of defence from Andy Tod, used his body to turn O`Leary before taking a couple of touches to line up a great strike low from 12 yards into the left of the Aberdeen net.
An excellent save from Jamie Langfield diving at the feet of Darren Mackie kept the Fifers in the lead at half time. Fifteen minutes into the second half Donnelly cut in from the left around O`Leary before unleashing another low shot to beat Ryan Esson. Simon completed his hattrick with a well struck curling effort from a free kick on the edge of the box.
Further saves from Langfield and a well timed tackle from Tod kept the visitors out. Dunfermline had more chances but failed to add to their tally. Apart from Simon Donnelly there were also good performances from youngsters Greg Ross and Pat Scullion.
