U21 League, goal feast at East End Park

DUNFERMLINE 5 ABERDEEN 7

BSkyB had camera units at Dunfermline’s Under 21 match with Aberdeen and what a feast of goals they got!

Whilst the first teams may not have been able to conjure up a goal during the two league matches they have played this season, the respective under 21 sides showed that the art of scoring had not been lost.

The fact that both Andy Tod and Brian Reid were away on loan may of course have something to do with the scoreline. By the same token, Craig Martin and Eddie May both retired through injury early in the second-half and that also possibly contributed to the sieve like quality of the Pars defence.

A slightly higher than usual attendance suggested that perhaps Moroccan Youssef Rossi was about to make his Dunfermline debut, but alas not yet.

Owen Coyle notched a hat-trick and Colin Nish scored the other two. Given the problems that the first team strikers are encountering this was a timely reminder to the Pars coaches are there are alternatives to the current strikeforce.

Aberdeen’s very powerful front line included Paul Bernard, Andy Dow and Arild Stavrum who collected a hat-trick as he returned from injury.

Despite the presence of Ian Ferguson, who returned after suspension and picked up your card, this Aberdeen side was too strong for an in experienced Pars defence.

The Pars were two up at one point and also took a 4-3 lead early in the second-half, before the Dons turned it around to lead 6-5 before settling it with a seventh in 87th minute.

At least Dunfermline had the satisfaction of scoring five against the under 21 league leaders, prior to this match they only had conceded three goals in their first five league outings.
