Lesley wrote. This was always going to be the highlight of the Dutch Tour with new keeper Marco Ruitenbeek coming up against his newly abandoned club. The home support even explained that Rout-en-beck is the pronunciation.
Eight year old mascot David McMechan led out the Pars on a lovely July evening in Terwolde that followed yet another day of rain. Go Ahead defeated Terwolde 4-0 in the first of their pre season matches last Wednesday but Dunfermline proved stiffer opposition despite having players out injured. Stewart Petrie played deeper than usual but with no particular effect.
An excellent match with a shocker of a start with the Dutch scoring after only three minutes. Not too many of the enlarged Pars support seemed to be watching since the singing and drinking seemed to be foremost in their minds.
Lee BULLEN got one back after 21 minutes before Owen COYLE shot the Pars into the lead with a curler that went in off the post.
Go Ahead`s equaliser came in the 65th minute. Worryingly Steve Crawford had to be substituted at half time after a hefty challenge in the first half had left his shin the worse for wear.
