Qatar opponents step in as Romania’s Universetes Craiova call off
Injury problems in the original opponents camp meant that Dunfermline found themselves Al Ittihad last minute stand ins. The Qatar outfit provided stiff opposition, that said the Scots should have converted a couple of late chances that would have secured a victory.
In the first half Al Ittihad showed some neat touches and real pace, with an aerobatic overhead kick coming close to opening the scoring. Marco Ruitenbeek had to pull off a good save from an angled drive while Dunfermline’s best first half chances fell to Andrius Skerla who was playing in a midfield role.

The Pars has the better of the second half action with Scott Thomson just wide from inside the box after just five minutes. In 72 minutes Stewart Petrie rounded the keeper but had his shot blocked by a defender on the edge of the six yard box. Two minutes later Owen Coyle blasted over from close range and in 80 minutes Stevie Crawford did almost exactly the same thing.
