Reserve League East

DUNFERMLINE 6 BRECHIN CITY 0

The shape of things to come was indicated early in the game when just two minutes in Lee Bullen, eager to impress, ran in on goal and had his shot parried away by veteran keeper Geddes. Bullen was involved again two minutes later when Pars got their first goal. After a good run down the left, Bullen crossed low into the six yard box and Geddes, under pressure from Colin NISH, saw the ball bobble between his legs and into the net. Nish was credited with
the goal although whether he actually touched it is open to debate.

The same partnership put the Pars two ahead in the 13th minute. Bullen`s shot was mis-hit, but NISH was on hand to head it home for his second. Bullen was unlucky again seven minutes later when he saw his header come back off the cross bar, the rebound being headed wide by Nish.

In the 24th minute Brechin had their first real chance. Pars` Stuart Anderson was booked for a rash challenge, and from the free kick Brechin found themselves in possession in the danger area. The ball was floated into the six yard box, but Squires eventually managed to poke it clear. A follow-up 25-yard drive from Brechin`s number 8 was easily held by David Hay, returning to reserve action after missing last week`s cup tie.

In the 37th minute Pars could have had another goal when a cross was whipped in over the heads of the Brechin defence but Steven Boyle`s header went inches past the post.

The Pars did grab another just before half time however. A neat flick by Bullen sent NISH through on goal, and the big striker chipped the oncoming keeper from six yards.

The second half was slow to get going, with only Bullen`s 52nd minute header straight at Bobby Geddes providing any goalmouth action in the opening ten minutes.

Quarter of an hour in, Geddes produced a fine save from a superb volley from McLeish. Within a couple of minutes, the opposite goal was being attacked, but Hay produced an excellent save, sending the ball over the bar.

Nothing came from the corner, and within a minute Pars were four up. Chris TEMPLEMAN waltzed through the Brechin defence and fired home from the edge of the box.

Bullen was next to try a long range effort, but after it went just wide of the target it was up to Colin NISH to put the Pars five up. He held off the Brechin defenders just long enough to blast the ball into the far corner of Brechin`s net from the edge of the box.

Pars continued to put the pressure on Brechin. In the 27th minute, a wonderful through ball from Bullen found Boyle, who aimed a cross for the far post where Nish was waiting. A Brechin defender intercepted, sending the ball off via his own post. From the corner, Russell Taylor`s header was just over the bar.

Lee BULLEN finally got the goal he deserved in the 32nd minute. Beating the offside trap, he latched onto a through ball and found himself in acres of space. Running in at goal, his little shimmy deceived Geddes, and Bullen had an easy task of stroking the ball home.

Boyle was unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet too. A minute after Bullen had scored, Boyle saw his superb volley well saved by Geddes, and after being sent through on goal by Bullen he had another shot saved.

Six-nil it remained, with Pars dominating throughout and some very impressive individual performances from McLeish (on trial from Raith Rovers), Bullen, Boyle (first game back after injury) and Templeman.
