U21s v Hearts
Tuesday, 20th Oct 1998Tuesday 20th October 1998
DUNFERMLINE 0 HEARTS 0
Played in torrential rain that made the pitch audibly squelchy, this was a game that will be forgotten about long before the pitch dries out. Dunfermline fielded Marc Millar, Andy Tod and triallist ex Hibee Chris Jackson, Hearts had Dave McPherson, Rob McKinnon and Carracondo Perez.
The Spaniard caused Stuart Anderson problems all night down the right and he set up a 26th minute opportunity for “Donkey” McPherson but the big man shot into the sidenetting. Hearts did not actually force a save out of Hay in the Pars goal at any stage during the entire match.
Marc Millar’s 25 yard shot in the 29th minute brought a save from the Hearts keeper but his drive seven minutes later went wide. Andy Tod’s headed effort was easily saved by the keeper and just before half time Colin Nish wound his way round the Hearts defence but failed to beat the keeper.
The second half did nothing to warm 200 odd spectators in the south stand. Andy Tod kept the defence together and Marc Millar had spells of complete control in midfield. Craig Faulconbridge had a quiet game.
