Huntly 1 Dunfermline 2
Tuesday, 23rd Jul 1996Pre Season Friendly: Mark McCulloch (31) 0-1: Selbie 1-1: Andy Tod (62) 0-2
A promising start to the season at Christie Park in what could easily have been difficult circumstances. Highland League champions Huntly had already beaten First Division East Fife and would have dearly loved to have a Premier scalp.
It certainly showed in their play and Dunfermline were soon in no doubt that they were in a competitive match. Early chances fell Dunfermline`s way but were not taken until Mark McCULLOCH, who had looked busy throughout, rifled in a low shot to take the lead in 31 minutes.
Huntly began to come into the match as half time approached , and with five changes in the Pars line-up after the break, the Highland League side got back into the match with a superbly struck 25 yarder from Alan SELBIE.
Their joy was short-lived however as Andy TOD crashed in the winner in 62 minutes. Dunfermline then looked in control and might have gone further ahead with one effort from David Bingham particularly well saved by John Gardiner.
The match saw the debut of former Nottingham Forest defender Tommy Wilson who has been on trial with the Pars. His performance would have done his chances of getting a contract no harm at all.
