No Paisley Penalty for Paul

Monday, 13th Mar 2017

"It was just one of those days where we never really got much."

On loan Celt Paul McMullan was puzzled as to just why he did not get a first half penalty decision that might have significantly altered the outcome of Saturday`s match against St Mirren. He told the media:-

"I was only four yards out, goal side of the man and I had no reason to go down in my opinion. It was just one of those days where we never really got much."

Pressed for what referee Stephen Finnie had said about the incident, Paul continued:-

"He has given a few different explanations as to why he has not given the penalty so to be honest I am not sure what he has seen or what he thinks he has not seen.

"It is in the past now, I don`t know what he thinks has happened. He told one of our players that he thinks I jumped into their man, he has told one of their players that he does not think that there was enough contact for a penalty. He doesn`t think the ball was there, I do not know what he was thinking. He was just trying to make an excuse.

"It was a pretty even game but if we had taken one of those chances we could have won it. The keeper has made a couple of decent saves especially the one from Paton, it was a really good save. It is probably one we will look back on with frustration that we did not take all three points.

"We want to take as many wins as we can and push up the table a bit. A point is not disastrous away from home. It keeps us the same points away from the bottom that is the main thing."

Paul was on loan at St Mirren for the first half of the 2015-16 season and made 17 appearances for the Buddies. He got the customary abusive `welcome` for players returning to a former club:-

"I have had stick every time I have come back. Last time it was as a Morton player. That did not go down well either. It is part and parcel, the fans enjoy it. They pay their money to come and do whatever they want."

The 21 year old admitted that he was concerned for St Mirren in their current situation:-

"Of course it is a really good club and being one of my former clubs I am really concerned for them. I thoroughly enjoyed my six months here, unfortunately it did not turn out the way that I would have liked.

"Now that they have not to play us, I hope that they can pick up the points to keep them in the league."

Paul confirmed that he is enjoying his spell in the Dunfermline first team. He has started all of the last 17 matches and rightly feels that the manager has a lot of confidence in him.

"My team mates have a lot of confidence in me to give me the ball. When people trust you with the ball you want to do something with it."

Allan Johnston has passed on useful tips to Paul:-

"He played in that position and gives you snippets, things you can work with. I have never really had that from a coach. Growing up all my coaches have all been more defensive minded."
