65 very welcome minutes for Callum Fordyce as he returns against Civil Service Strollers after almost ten months out

Callum Fordyce is hoping that his first match back after a horrendous injury is the slip road back on to a motorway back to first team football at Dunfermline. Speaking exclusively to this website after a 65 minute outing in the under 20s first pre season friendly against Lowland League newcomers, Civil Service Strollers he said:-

"It will be ten months on Tuesday since I was injured but this is a relief out my head now and hopefully I am on the way up now. I didn`t really think about my leg during the game, once you get into it your head is elsewhere and it is always a bonus when you are not thinking about it.

"It is out of the system and training every day means that I can move on and hopefully that is the bad times behind. I have taken part throughout pre season training minus the first week when I was just doing running while the boys were doing games. I never got involved in that, I was doing work with the Physio and the Sports Scientist.

"I feel great and stronger than I have ever done before. I feel ready to go. I am not entirely sure when I can realistically be challenging for a first team place. I will need to speak to the gaffer and Kenny Murray. Kenny will have more of an idea than what I have.

"There are a lot of games coming up now with the 20s and the first team in the League Cup. I will just try to get as many minutes as I can and work my way up to 90 minutes. If I can get plenty in then hopefully the gaffer will feel that I am already to compete for places."

Callum had started last season alongside Ben Richards-Everton in a back four that was unchanged during that amazing start when the Pars went on a 4-1, 5-1, 6-1, 7-1 winning sequence. Ryan Williamson`s double leg break in game five led to Jason Talbot getting into the team and ultimately starting 39 matches.

The team was then again unchanged due to its success until Callum suffered a season ending injury in the match against Ayr United on 12th September. Marc McAusland and then Brad McKay were then brought in to fill the vacuum created by Callum`s enforced absence. This season Lee Ashcroft has arrived and has already started forming a working partnership with the ever present Ben Richards-Everton. Callum added his thoughts:-

"There is always pressure but it is good that there is competition, it brings the best out of you. I think everybody in all positions wants a bit of competition."

Callum was replaced by John Potter and although he does not feel the threat to his chances from that quarter the 24 year old who joined from Livingston this time last year admitted that he would have loved to have had a defensive partnership with the coach:-

"It is one of my dreams to have played with Potts. Competition for places brings the best out of players like Ben, Lee, myself and Lewis we will push each other but at the end of the day we are a team, it is all about the team winning games, hopefully no matter what combination it is that is what we are doing."

Callum is not different from the rest of the squad in drooling over the fixtures coming up in this season`s Championship, he added:-

"The boys are itching to go. They have worked so hard through pre season. You do all the running and hard work off the ball but when you are back in the games that is what you are aiming for. It is a massive season for us. We think we can do really well in the League and in the cups. We have a good cup draw and hopefully we get a great run like we did last season. That set the standard right away for the season and we would like to do that again."
