Williamson gets wired in

Ryan Williamson was pleased to get 65 minutes game time in the pre season friendly at Alloa on Wednesday night. The player who was out for eight months last season after suffering a double leg break in the Petrofac Training Cup at Forfar, said that he was feeling good after the Alloa experience and 55 minutes in a closed doors game against Partick Thistle on Saturday.
"It was a hard shift but it is what I need leading up to the season. We need to get as much game time as we can."
Ryan certainly looked back to his usual speedy self and was not holding back in any of the challenges he made. The ball he got over for the Trialist to score just before half time was in his trademark style, catching a ball that most would have given up on and crossing from the right byeline for a rudimentary finish in front of goal.
"A lot of people have been asking me `how is the leg`? Since I have come back there have been no physical issues or pain at all. I feel as quick as I did before. fitness wise I feel just as good as I was before I got injured.
"Comparing the pre season test results with last season`s they show that I have come back fitter. I am feeling good and when I am playing I do not think about my leg at all. I am enjoying being back, hopefully now that`s my bad luck out of the way, I would like to think so anyway.
"At the end of last season I was just breaking myself in. Thinking about my leg I was kind of wary of what could happen. I have seen this as a fresh start this season and I have come back raring to go. I am not thinking about my injury problems or anything like that. I am just concentrating on getting stuck in and enjoying my football again.
"The way I have been looking at it, if I go in thinking about things happening to my leg that is probably increasing the chances of something happening. The best way to do it is just to get wired back in."
Dunfermline`s first competitive match is just under three weeks away but after such a successful season last time, the players just can`t wait to get back in action. Ryan explained:-
"The boys are buzzing because it is going to be a great league this year with some really exciting teams. We have still a few friendlies leading up to the season but we can`t wait to get going and hopefully having as successful a year as last year.
"The new boys have settled in well but then everyone in the changing room has said that this is the best group of boys. The more experienced players have been saying that this is the best changing room that they have played in. Everyone gets on with everyone, everyone is like best pals, there are no bad eggs."
Ryan was playing alongside new signing from Kilmarnock, Lee Ashcroft and he enjoyed the outing:-
"Lee is a very good player, a really good defender and throughout the game he was constantly talking and making sure that I was always tucked in and telling me when to maybe go out and press the wide player. It was helpful having that experience next to you, keeping me on track and making sure that I was always doing my duties. It is good to play alongside him and hopefully we can form some sort of partnership this season."
Another new player, playing in midfield, displayed some strong defensive qualities at Alloa on Wednesday night, Ryan continued:-
"Nat Wedderburn played in defence when we played Cowdenbeath in the play offs. He can also play centre half and he is good on the ball, neat and tidy with the defensive qualities needed as well when they are required.
"That was our second game back and our third back in training. It has been great, training has been hard but enjoyable. Pre season is going to be difficult but that is what is needed to get us ready for the season ahead. I have seen it as a fresh start this season and I am loving every minute of pre season. I just can`t wait to get going again this season."
