Keddie gets into the groove
Friday, 5th Aug 2011"It is unfortunate for Kev that he got his injury but sometimes these things happen and it gives me and John an opportunity to make sure that we play in the team by playing well.
While he was a Ross County player Alex Keddie played against Inverness four times and his record was two wins, a draw and one defeat. If selected on Saturday it will only be Alex's second SPL game but for him that's the main story:-
"I am just looking forward to the game whether its Caley Thistle or anybody else. After our break from the league last weekend I am just looking forward to getting back into the real business rather than friendlies and cup games."
Alex feels that it some ways Inverness are quite similar to the Pars.
"They have big strong boys who can also play football as well. There are no giants in their team but they are a good unit that have done well last year to nearly finish in the top six."
The 30 year old defender feels that the first SPL game of the season, a week past Monday, was a success for the Pars defence:-
"St Mirren got off to a real flyer of a start; they threw everything at us. Granted they got a penalty but apart from the penalty in the first half, they didn't really have any clear cut chances. That's the positive we took out of the game. In the second half we got stuck in and played more of our own game.
"Every game is going to be different but it is only going to be last season where we could dominate in games. We are in the situation now where we will get five or ten minute spells where hopefully we can sneak goals."
A bit of a role reversal this season admitted Alex:- "We are not going to get it all our own way even at home. Fans will need to realise that it is not going to be the same at all. Fans need to help us by getting behind us and we need to concentrate on not losing goals because we will always sneak one. We are a team that can score goals."
Not that Alex has managed to find the net yet in his 34 competitive appearances for Dunfermline, but that is not unusual since Chris Higgins against Queen of the South on 16th April is the only central defender to have found the net for Dunfermline since Greg Shields against Livingston in December 2008.
Alex congratulates Chris Higgins
"It doesn't matter who scores the goals but it would be good to score my first for Dunfermline and hopefully its this year. I have managed four or five goals every other season and I don't understand why it changed when I came to Dunfermline. I had plenty of opportunities; I have hit the post and seen keepers save my efforts."
Alex's central defensive pairing changed from Andy Dowie to Kevin Rutkiewicz last season but now Kevin's hip injury means it has been John Potter whom he has formed a partnership with.
"Every player is different but it is not rocket science, John is an experienced pro who has settled in and it wasn't hard to get into the groove. It is unfortunate for Kev that he got his injury but sometimes these things happen and it gives me and John an opportunity to make sure that we play in the team by playing well."
The former St Mirren captain stands out on the field since he is very vocal, somewhat in contrast to Alex Keddie:-
"I tend not to bawl and shout. It is not my style, you can communicate without chewing them up. Kevin and Potts have their style and I've got mine; that's how it works."
In other news Dunfermline will face Raith Rovers in the Fife Cup on Tuesday 30th August. The match will take place at East End Park and will kick off at 7.00pm.
