Ambition is for promotion with Dunfermline for Saturday's Man of the Match

Willie Gibson

Willie Gibson felt that it was the pressure that the Pars put on Stirling that finally told in the end in Saturday's 5-1 victory.

"It is a massive difference from last week. Last week obviously we never took our chances, this week we took them. We have always said that if we create chances then we have someone to score them. Andy has proved that today with a hat-trick and that is 11 goals in eight games."

Willie is working his way into match fitness after a minor knee injury at the start of pre season followed by an achilles injury on his first day back. Four or five weeks of pre season were missed and the 26 year old midfielder is still working doing extra after training sessions just to get up to the fitness required.

"Game time is the main thing. You can train as much as you like but you only get fitness from games."

Results possibly went for Dunfermline on Saturday with Falkirk losing to ten man Dundee and Thistle losing at Cowdenbeath. It could be down to the so called promotion hopefuls avoiding defeat in the way Dunfermline did at Raith the previous week.

"I think everybody in this league will beat everybody else. All the boys would tell you that it is important just to look after yourselves. We look at the other scores at the end of our game but the first thing we do is take care of our own game as we did at Stirling. Raith won and are still three points ahead of us going into the international break but there are so many more games to go. If we perform like we did against Stirling Albion week in week out and get the consistency level that we did lack last year then we will have a good chance."

The goal of course is promotion to the SPL:-

"It is massive for us, everybody wants to play at the highest level. I got my move to Kilmarnock by doing well with Queen of the South but it didn't work out. I never played as many games as I wanted to play and as a player if you are not playing there is nothing more frustrating as sitting on the bench or in the stand. I found myself starting 20 games in two years so it is massive to come to Dunfermline and play week in week out."

Dunfermline sorely want to be contenders for promotion and Willie added:-

"Dundee and Falkirk will fancy themselves, Ross County had a good season last year, Partick, Raith - there are so many teams in it. We all have our eye on somebody who could really do well in this league thinking if we can finish above them then we have a chance but we will keep that to ourselves."

Willie turned down a move to Crawley Town earlier this month, he went over again the circumstances that led to him staying at East End
Park:-

"The Club accepted the bid, it was obviously a good offer for the Club at that time. I spoke personal terms and the money and things like that were very attractive but there is a job still to do here. I signed from Kilmarnock to get the Club back in the SPL. This season will be a big season and we can all do well here.

"It was the night of the Alba Cup game against Queen of the South. I had spoken to them on the Monday and rejected the move on the Tuesday morning. So when I went in on Tuesday night there were a few boys on the piss take saying 'are you not away' and ;the Chairman is looking for you etc' - it was banter amongst the boys but I am happy to stay here. They are a good bunch of boys to work for."
