Steven McDougall Post Clyde
Tuesday, 24th Aug 2010"Two good finishes cost us so we knew that we had to lift it a bit to get the goals. Thankfully we did and got the win in the end.
In the Second Round Co-operative Insurance Cup tie Steven McDougall was delighted to get on the scoresheet only four minutes after coming on off the bench:-
"I was pleased to win since it was a hard game. I think everybody played their part; the boys who started and the subs. Sometimes when you freshen it up it can make a difference; tonight thankfully it worked."
While watching from the bench for over an hour Steven felt that Dunfermline had lots of the play but made two mistakes to give Clyde the lead:-
"Two good finishes cost us so we knew that we had to lift it a bit to get the goals. Thankfully we did and got the win in the end. My goal took a wee deflection but I will take it anyway. Another goal so I hope to get on from the start."
Steven was pleased to have a fast and positive reaction following his Manager's criticism of the substitutes on Saturday in Kirkcaldy:-
"I agreed with him on Saturday, when we came on we never made a difference. We maybe didn't work hard enough but there just wasn't the spark you normally get from a sub coming on with fresh legs. Tonight we were out to prove a point, hopefully we did that."
No one would say that it is easy coming into a match as sub, Steven maintained that it can be hard to get a foothold on the game.
"It is hard to get up to the pace but tonight we had a lot of the ball and it was a little easier. Ask any player, you prefer to start the game; then you start at the same level as everybody else."
It is up to the Manager whether or not the 24 year old who joined from Airdrie United at the start of last season, will continue to be handed the subs shirt but Steven concedes that the players currently ahead of him are playing well:-
"You can't really complain but I hope it will be soon. I want to play upfront although I was signed here as a winger but I moved upfront kind of late on. It is good and I enjoy it. I prefer to play up there rather than on the wing.
"It is not a big squad and everybody in the squad can feel that they should be playing. You play plenty of games in the First Division so everybody wants to be involved. We have a strong squad even although it is small, hopefully by the end of the season we are up there."
Steven was not bothered who the Club draws in the next round:-
"We are just happy to get through. Clyde gave us a right good game and if we play a bigger team hopefully we can do the same."
