Noel Hunt comments at Tannadice

Sunday, 20th Aug 2006

"They look a better side than last year, they have brought in players to improve the squad and should have no problems staying up. I wish them all the best."

Scott Wilson challenges Noel Hunt

Opponent Noel Hunt gave the website his post match thoughts after facing his old Dunfermline team mates for the first time:-

"It was good, the boys came here and set up their stall but we had a lot of possession and we played well. We had a lot of good chances near the end but it is a good point for Dunfermline. They came here and got a good draw.

"It was a great run by Mark as he always does; really clever. He went down, it was a penalty and it was an unfortunate miss for him. It kick started us again and we controlled the game."

Noel you spent quite a lot of time on the ground?

"Yes, I have a bit of cramp at moment. I don't know if it is a medical thing but I might need an operation for it. I need it sorted out."

And did you feel that the yellow card shown to Scott Wilson was maybe harsh when you went over him?

"Well I'm not sure. I was definitely away from him, I took the ball past and he dived in - I'm not sure if it was a booking. It is a bit early in the match but just like what we saw all these stupid bookings during the World Cup for going in hard, they were free kicks but not bookings and I think it might of been one of those today. He hasn't gone to hurt or injury me, he has genuinely gone for the ball and I have gone passed him.

"I think Phil's (McGuire) one was warranted, he just two footed me but it looked worse than it was because I think it was Bamba behind me who pushed me. It made me go over that much faster. It was just one of those things."

The 23 year from Waterford left Dunfermline Athletic in June to be re-united with Craig Brewster. Hunt is reported as claiming that it was his high regard for the Tannadice gaffer that was instrumental in the Irishman agreeing to sign a three year deal. He was desperate to do well on Saturday but observed:-

"Dunfermline look good again this season and I hope they do stay up again." He added that Brew had not given him any extra special words to raise his game against the Pars, "he just said that I have nothing to prove; all the time he was just saying to me "just play your game" and I think I did OK today, causing them a few problems."

Noel still lives in Dunfermline and good friends with a fair number of his ex team mates. Indeed Scott Muirhead still lives with him. Although he claims not to have been out in the town since his switch to United, he confirmed that he had been a spectator at a few of the pre season matches:-

"I have watched three or four games. They did well against Rangers too and looked good and solid. They look a better side than last year, they have brought in players to improve the squad and should have no problems staying up. I wish them all the best."
