Merce returns for just one night

Tuesday night was former youth player Scott Mercer`s first return

A former pupil of Queen Anne High School, Scott Mercer lined up at left back in the Queen of the South team that was the opposition for Tuesday night`s re-arranged Championship match. He told the website that it was great to be back at East End Park.

"It was nice to be back and I got a good reception so that was good."

Scott came through the youth system at Dunfermline Athletic from U10s and was a contemporary of Lewis Spence. He made his Dunfermline debut coming on as a sub v Rangers on 3rd May 2013, then went out for a month on loan to Albion Rovers in November that year. He left the Pars when his contract expired in May 2015. At the time he was disappointed but he now considers joining East Fife to have been a good move.

"Taking a step back by going to East Fife was brilliant for me. I played every minute of the season and we won the league. It proved it to myself that I could do it. That was all I worried about."

Scott then followed Gary Naismith from Methil to Dumfries in a move that appropriately came out of the blue.

"I just got a phone all from my agent who said they were interested and he would see what they could do. All of a sudden it got to the closing stages and got pushed through on the Thursday.

"I have a good relationship with the gaffer, he helped me a lot defensively at East Fife. When I was at Dunfermline I was a winger but then John Potter - credit to him - he pushed me back to full back and really took my game on.

"As soon as a Gary Naismith went there I knew that he would do well. You can see results have really picked up since he came in."

A Pars fan all his life, Scott still keeps in touch with the likes of Callum Morris, Joe Cardle, Michael Moffat and Spency.

"Big Andy Dowie was the only player I knew at Queens but they have all been brilliant with me. They welcomed me in and I got settled in quickly."

The 22 year old was an ever present for East Fife until he joined Queen of the South on 12th January 2017 and has played in all seven of their Championship matches since signing. Good luck Scott.
