Mason focusses on Mirren

Tuesday, 20th Mar 2012

"We will keep believing, there are still points to be won but we cannot keep saying that, it has to happen.

Gary Mason

Gary Mason claims that he and his team mates put the sacking of Jim McIntyre behind them and applied themselves fully to training on Monday:-

"It is not nice when it happens but obviously we have to look forward to Saturday. That is all that our focus is on right now, we need to start winning games."

Seven years ago, Gary was also at Dunfermline when Davie Hay was sacked after 42 matches in charge when just 8 were won and 12 drawn. This time Jim McIntyre was the one to leave the post but he knows what football is like and was willing to admit that some of the blame had to be the players:-

"For one reason or another as players we have not produced but with three games to the split, eight games in total we will give everything. The Manager never made excuses, alright we might have had injuries but we need to deal with that situation."

The current Pars squad was signed by Jim McIntyre and there is clearly a desire from them all to prove that they are good enough to stave off relegation, the 32 year old midfielder continued:-

"He has built up this squad over the four and a half years that he has been here and for us to stay up would be the greatest tribute. As players we want to go and finish the season on a high.

"We will keep believing.  There are still points to be won but we cannot keep saying that, it has to happen. St Mirren will be a hard game on Saturday. They knocked the ball about really well at Paisley although we came back into it in the second half.

"It would be nice to get a home victory, it is too long and well overdue."
