Manager’s Friday Update
Friday, 5th Aug 202205/08/22: One player in, one player out on loan
Following the signing of 19 year old Chris Mochrie on loan from Dundee United today, Pars manager James McPake explained how pleased he was to add him to his squad. He told the website:-
“Chris is a player I have known for a number of years having seen him in the Dundee United youth teams when I was at Dundee. He is a player who I have admired, he has had two loan spells at Montrose already, he has played in the Dundee United first team and he is one that they have high hopes for the future.”
A product of United youth while attending the Scottish FA Performance School programme at St John`s High School, Chris gained recognition while playing for United`s U18 squad, having also consistently represented Scotland at U16 level in the Victory Shield.
Towards the end of the 2018-19 season, just less than a month after playing his first reserve game, Chris debuted as a substitute in the Championship at the age of 16 years and 27 days, confirming his place (then) as the youngest ever footballer to play for United`s first team.
In February this year Chris signed a contract extension to keep him at United until the summer of 2024. James added:-
“We are pleased to get the deal over the line because there were a lot of clubs looking at him, so get him we are delighted. Thanks to Jack Ross and Liam Fox at Dundee United for helping to make it happen.”
The manager confirmed that it was a case of one in one out today as 18 year old defender Miller Fenton (pictured above) goes out on loan to Lowland League, Berwick Rangers:-
“Miller is at that point in his career where he has to go and play games. His game time has been limited and credit to the boy he came and asked to go out on loan. He will go to Berwick Rangers and hopefully play some games before coming back here in the new year.
“We have seen it before, players can go out and experience first team football playing week in week out. That is what we are hoping for with Miller. We will assess that again come Christmas and hopefully he comes back into our squad a better player for having played first team games as opposed to playing in friendlies here and there because we are not in a reserve league.
“It is tough getting that group games following a period during Covid where they lost a fair chunk of football. Miller showed a great attitude to come in and work really hard. He also showed a real desire to be a footballer who wanted to go out and play so I’m happy with that as well.”
Made his Dunfermline first team debut and as yet only Pars appearance when substitute for Josh Edwards in Premier Sports Cup tie against Dumbarton on Saturday 17th July 2021. Prior to that Miller had made seven appearances for East Fife while on loan there from March until May in 2021.
