Higgy targets return to the good days

Monday, 18th Sep 2017

"I am the type of player who needs to be enjoying my football and needs to feel loved by the club.

Kallum Higginbotham is keen to bring back the good days to Dunfermline and cited the opening of the new gym at East End Park as an indication of the continuing ambition that the club holds.

"I have said all along that, for the size of the club, it should be in the SPL. We have been down to League One and now working our way back up.

"I think with the squad that we have built over the last couple of seasons, we can have a real push this year and hopefully can get them back to where they belong."

Dunfermline`s approach to the task ahead has certainly been by playing attacking football. Demonstrated clearly with the three goals against St Mirren that took the total so far to 36 from twelve matches.

"The players that the gaffer brought in pre season allow us to play the way that we want to play and that is fast attacking football. Let the opposition come on to us and then break fast. It has worked well so far and hopefully can carry on working for the rest of the season."

Kallum pointed out that to recover from Morton in the way they did is the sign of a great team.

"We bounced back fantastic after the Rangers defeat and then after the defeat last week with a superb performance against the league leaders. That now puts us back on top but we are not going to get carried away.

"Over the course of the season everyone is going to beat everyone and it is just about getting that consistency and getting that run together and trying to pull away from the rest of the teams. Results like against St Mirren are going to help."

The 28 year old midfielder was pitched up against Stelio Demetirou and it was a tough first half encounter only for St Mirren to shake things up for the second half in a tactical switch that saw Demetirou taken off. Kallum saw that as a pleasing personal victory.

"He ran right into me in the first tackle and I thought `I`m going to have him this half.` He didn`t come out for the second half and I think that is 1-0 Higgy.

"There will be plenty of tussles over the course of the season. I was having a laugh and a joke in the first half. That is what football is about, when you are on the pitch you give it everything and then after it you can have a laugh and don`t hold any grudges."

Competition for starting places is good and for those included in the team it is a joy to play. That is something that Kallum feels he thrives off:-

"I am the type of player who needs to be enjoying my football and needs to feel loved by the club. That is exactly how I feel from the fans to the management team and from the players.

"I think you can see that in the performance personally and it reflects on the team as well. I have just got to do that week in week out and hopefully we can all keep playing like that, because to a man on Saturday everyone of us was fantastic."
