Happy 100th Birthday to John
Wednesday, 17th Jun 2020Everyone at DAFC would like to wish John McArthur very many happy returns today, on his 100th birthday.
John, is our Club Chairman’s Uncle, and he still follows our beloved Pars with great interest. We all hope he has a wonderful day and gets a surprise with his present (with his new squad number) which will sit nicely alongside his telegram from Her Majesty!
Ross stated “My Uncle John is now a resident in a care home in Norfolk, after leaving his house in Inverkeithing a couple of years ago, to be beside my cousin Ian and his family. Ian had organised in January for everyone to attend a surprise party for him on the day of his 100th birthday.
“Sadly, because of Coronavirus the home has been locked down since March and no one will be allowed in to see him reaching this special milestone. It is a real shame. Once again, it highlights the devastating impact that Covid-19 has had on so many families, and I am sure this will resonate with so many other families across the Country.
Uncle John still gets a copy of the Dunfermline Press sent to him regularly, and he reads it from back page to front as he still likes to hear what is happening at East End Park, even if his youngest nephew is getting some stick!
“He used to live in a house on the other side of Macklin Motors on Halbeath Road, and I remember the stories my Dad used to tell me of them all meeting at Uncle John’s, before the many big games held at East End Park during the 1960’s. I am glad his enthusiasm for our club has not diminished and he still follows The Pars with a keen interest.
I am sure I speak on behalf of the Arnott, Barron, Jamieson and McArthur families that I would like to wish him a very Happy Birthday, on this momentous day, and we all hope to see him soon”
