Good Guessers
Tuesday, 3rd May 2016Winners of competition to guess the gate at next Pars home match
Two Pars supporters, with a hundred years of supporting the Pars between them, met up at our last match of the season, against Peterhead on Saturday.
Derek Taylor from Buckinghamshire has supported Dunfermline since 1953 and John Lloyd from Sliema, Malta since 1962. Derek times his visits to his family in Perthshire to coincide with games at East End Park.
Last July, John, as "Sliema Par" on the Pars Fans Forum (www.dafc.net), began a fortnightly competition to guess the gate at our next match. Hundreds eventually took part for fun, thereby increasing awareness and pride in our astonishing gates for the third tier of Scottish Football.
Finally, it was won by Derek Taylor, aka "Parbucks ", who guessed within just two ,though nine others estimated, remarkably, within ten during the season!
John who wrote Pars books "The Giant That Awoke" and "Dunfermline Greats", presented a bottle of Maltese red wine appropriately as the prize, before they both enjoyed the title celebrations!
Ross McArthur, DAFC Managing Director praised the initiative:-
"This was a great initiative run by John, which raises further awareness and sense of pride in our local community club. Congratulations to Derek on guessing so closely the actual gates, perhaps I should consult with him next season in terms of our budget!!”
