Could the Old Allan Smith return?
Friday, 21st Nov 2014The manager promises changes, so could there be room for the scorer of four goals in the last two 20s games?
Allan Smith is pleased to have recovered after having his tonsils removed. He claims that there are no excuses for him now:-
"It is good to be back winning games with the 20s. That is four wins now and it is good to get a run of games for them. Winning and scoring goals is what is needed in the first team."
His first team appearances 42 at the end of last season but he has only added three appearances this term, totalling just 22 minutes on the park. Allan who was 20 in January is keen to play more in the first team. The tonsillitis had hampered his fitness but his 20s coach has noticed an appreciable difference of late. He continued:-
"I just want to get into the first team, hopefully I will play on Saturday, score, get a win and back into winning ways. Potts keeps saying that is the old Allan Smith back. More like last season and the one before that; just getting about the park, sprinting about and working hard. I don't know where the old Allan Smith went, but he is back!"
Allan has scored four goals in the last two Under 20s games and he reflected how that team's fortunes have changed:-
"They got beat in six games out of seven but then all of a sudden went on a winning streak. Scoring gives that extra burst and you feel like lets go again and try and get another one. The rest of the team buzz around you. It is a lot better, more upbeat and you feel more involved having done your bit for the team. If you don't score you are down."
Having heard the manager's very public pronouncement that there would be changes this Saturday, Allan is hoping to benefit while still feeling it was unfortunate last week that Lewis Spence and Ryan Scully's injuries restricted the ability to freshen up the attack.
"That's football, it is just the way it happened, there is nothing you can do about that. Everyone needs to be chipping in. We have been playing well but not getting results. We are only three points off the top but hopefully it is our turn now to go on a run and up the league."
