Callum Fordyce signs new deal
Thursday, 18th Aug 2016Dunfermline Athletic are delighted to confirm defender, Callum Fordyce has signed a new deal with the club.
Fordyce has extended his deal with the club until the end of the season.
Allan Johnston said: "Delighted to get the deal done with Callum, he is going to be a big player for us this season, he is a leader on and off the field. He has worked very hard to get back and he deserves to be playing in the Championship".
Having been appointed club captain last season, Callum was ever present until suffering a season ending injury in September 2015.
Callum made his comeback against Hibs last Saturday, he told the website:-
"It was probably the biggest game of the season considering they are league favourites. We went to Easter Road and pushed them to their limits. I thought we were terrific in the second half and a fair result would have been a draw but these things happen in football.
"I couldn`t believe the bobble and still don`t understand how it happened. I could try that another hundred times and it wouldn`t happen to me. At that level you get punished immediately and you just have to bounce back.
"The gaffer spoke to me and said things happen like that in football. You just have to move on. I try and stay away from all that and look at the positive from the game which obviously a comeback after eleven months out. I felt that I did really well throughout the game.
"It was just unfortunate that happened, it is just one of those things. Folk will look back and say that is what happened on his comeback, but that is football.
"I have to look at the bigger picture, it has been a frustrating eleven months and to comeback was a massive occasion. I thought I coped with it really well."
After accepting a short term contract, Callum`s focus was always to get a new deal and he was delighted that has come about.
"This is a massive pick me up for myself, all the hard work has paid off. I have come through all the dark times and just have to look forward now.
"The short term deal was a concern, it is always at the back of your head. With getting married in the summer, having a house you have to look at the bigger picture. You do start worrying but I was always confident that I felt good, I felt fit.
"I spoke to the manager, played the games in the 20s, got better as the games went on and it is a massive relief off my shoulders. I can relax now and go out and enjoy my football."
Callum feels that he is due Physio Kenny Murray a massive thank you for all he has done to bring him back to match readiness. As second operation was more serious than the first, plate and screws were removed so that his ankle joint could set correctly. A new plate was inserted, anchors and tightropes were deployed to hold his ankle together.
"After the second operation we hit the ground running with stuff that we were able to do. Kenny gave me a programme and told me things to do away from football, working on my legs and my power to strengthen my muscles round about. Throughout the pre season I was doing double sessions myself. It was hard and tough but that has got me back."
