Beware Brechin’s Granny

Friday, 13th Apr 2018

Lee Robinson mindful of already relegated Brechin City. “I have only played them once. It was up there and they played quite well.

Lee Robinson reflected on the Pars seven game unbeaten run.

He enjoyed the atmosphere at the weekend and was delighted with a great result for Dunfermline Athletic. “If we have to win the last three league games to get into the play offs it will be good to be on a good run.

“I have enjoyed being here, it has worked out well but I was disappointed at the weekend not to get a clean sheet. If we won 6-5 every week, for me to win every week I’d let five in!”

Asked about the abuse that he appeared to be given by the Falkirk support in the second half when they were behind his goal, Lee said:-

“I took a couple of really bad knocks and they were giving me dogs abuse. I just said cheers, thanks for spurring is on. Higgy said that they played a part in him raising his game as well. I enjoyed it though I felt under a lot of pressure because it was a big game.

“I am a maximum of about 20 metres from the fans and a great spot for them to give you it. You just expect it. If you do one little thing that looks like you are time wasting and they are on to that, they influence the ref and I got booked for something where I went to get the ball behind the goal.

“They do get wound up easily especially when their team is losing. It worked out well for us.”

Similar atmospheres might be encountered if the Pars made the play offs and the 31 year old keeper thinks that sometimes the pressure makes you play better.

“We have done quite well after the St Mirren game, everyone was quite low and it felt horrible after the game. We have had a great run and the lads have been great.

“Every game is bigger than the last one. You think this is the biggest game, you win that and then it is even more precious the next week to get the points. At the minute it is working.”

There is a fear that already relegated, Brechin City could provide the proverbial banana skin and Lee says that despite not winning a single league match all season, they are not a bad team:-

“I have only played them once. It was up there and they played quite well. They looked dangerous, Nicky scored three goals but we could have had a few more. They could have had a couple and they are definitely not the worst team I’ve seen.“

Lee is enjoying life at Dunfermline since joining at New Year and feels that January has really heralded the start of his career.

“That’s fifteen league games, sixteen in total I have enjoyed it. Nine shut outs but we had a freak goal against Dundee United and a goal against Queen of the South that I still don’t know how it went in. I have never done that in my life. I could have had more and eleven against St Mirren there was a penalty and a man sent off.

“I have to be happy because it has been a really good run. It is not just me, the defence has been great and we have defended well as a team. It looks good when you are getting clean sheets and if you are doing that you only need to score one goal to win the game.”
