U19s v Ross County
Sunday, 8th Mar 2009After two first team, one reserve team and one U19 team match postponed in Dingwall, White scores but it was a defeat.
ROSS COUNTY 2 DUNFERMLINE 1
Dunfermline completed their U19 SFL league programme with a 2-1 defeat in Dingwall on Sunday afternoon. Both teams played well considering the horrid rain, sleet and windy conditions.
The visitors were the first to trouble with Lawrie Cannon twice causing keeper Peter Donnelly some anxiety. County always looked dangerous on the counterattack and it was exactly that which broke the deadlock in 37 minutes. A square pass inside the home penalty box was intercepted and a quick passing movement up the centre of the park put Daniel MacLeod in to score.
With the advantage of the wind in the second half Dunfermline did most of the attacking but it was County who scored next. Graham Girvan rose unchallenged to head in a corner from the left in 70 minutes.
The young Pars pressed hard for the remainder of the game and when Jordan White poked home a Rees Smith cross it made it an exciting finale as Ross County hung on to win.
Dunfermline were unlucky though with Conner Schivone being denied at the near post by Donnelly and then from the ensuing corner there were strong appeals for a penalty among accusations that a County hand punched the ball away. A series of corners and a long range effort from Ryan Thomson failed to bring the equaliser that the travellers probably merited.
